American Cancer Society Benefit Raises Over $50,000 In One Night!

8/27/10 - Silver Creek Country Club - To most people, birthdays are just a reminder that they're getting older. But at the American Cancer Society, "Happy Birthday" is a victory song, because a world with less cancer is a world with more birthdays.

More than 11 million Americans who have survived cancer —and countless others who have avoided it—will celebrate a birthday this year, thanks to the progress of the American Cancer Society to help people stay well and get well, to find cures, and fight back.

The fundraising event that took place at Silver Creek Country Club was motivating, emotional but also gave a sense of hope.

A local resident Kevin Vitale shared his fight with cancer and how he has so far defeated it. On the other extreme a great friend and colleague Jack Aknin (Food & Beverage Director) of Silver Creek is in the middle of the fight for his life. He's going through some VERY aggressive chemo at this moment. Jack and his family are in our thoughts and prayers every day. I hope that next year's event will be Jack sharing his story of strength and survival.

I want to thank you for the amazing job you did at the American Cancer Society's inaugural event, A World Without Cancer! Your skills and upbeat performance helped us raise over $50,000 toward finding a cure for cancer and helping people celebrate more birthdays!

The background music was perfect, the auction was energized and the cancer challenge was electric! We can't wait to start planning next year's second annual A World Without Cancer.
