How Great Is The Chanukah Song?!

Adam Sandler says it best right there in the opening introduction to his now-classic Chanukah Song: “There’s a lot of Christmas songs out there and not too many Chanukah songs, so I wrote a song for all those nice little Jewish kids who don’t get to hear any Chanukah songs…”

There aren’t many! The Dreidel song is pretty well known, but can you name many others? Likely not.

So Sandler goes about penning a song that is basically a tongue-in-cheek Jewish pride roll call, taking all kinds of liberties with the phonics to make it all rhyme and be laugh-riot funny! It’s filled with classic, good-natured stereotypes and sayings, poking fun at just about everything in its thematic path.

You just have to love a song like this. The world certainly does: even though it’s a seasonal song that came out in 1994, it still has over 10 million aggregate views across its many versions posted on YouTube.

Here’s the audio from what has become the definitive version:

Happy Chanukah everyone!
