When The Lights Go Out At The Riviera Hotel
Every year Mobile Beat Magazine hosts DJ Conference in Las Vegas. It's a 4 day event where DJ/MCs from all over the world get together, sit in on seminars during the day and late night "Seminars" at the nightclubs.
You might be asking where this event takes place. The Riviera Hotel on The Strip has been home to the seminars for many years. There are many adjectives to describe the old fashioned casino. Some call it classic, a dump, historical, a huge building that smells like an old ash tray.
Honestly, there is a lot of great history inside The Riviera walls.
Movies filmed there include:
Ocean's Eleven (1960)
Casino (1995)
Showgirls (1995)
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
Vegas Vacation (1997)
Performers include:
Frank Sinatra
MC Hammer
Liberace
Elvis Presley
The Village People
Luciano Pavarotti
The Riviera will be closing its doors on May 4, 2015 and will be torn down to make way for more convention space.
While the hotel maybe rundown - It has been a teaching ground for many DJ/MCs and the entertainment industry. We at Sound In Motion have learned a lot at the seminars and have made MANY new friends all over the country. Oddly enough we do get asked about events in other cities and states. So it's not uncommon for us to suggest some of the other companies that we have relationships with in those markets.
While we are sad to see The Riviera go, we are happy to know the DJ Show will go on next year at another location in Las Vegas.
