DJ Kevin O. Rocks The Lucille Packard Children's Hospital AGAIN!

By Kevin O'Scanlon

One of the coolest parts of being a Mobile DJ/MC is the variety of events that I get to work at every weekend. Everything from weddings and private parties, to backyard BBQs and sporting events. Every Saturday I meet a group of people ready to have a great time, and sometimes if I'm lucky, that same group will invite me back year after year.

One of my favorite such groups are the fine folks of Lucille Packard Children's Hospital. For 5 years in a row, I have had the pleasure of DJing and MCing the hospital's annual Holiday Gala. Let me just say that this group knows how to party! Nearly every one of the 1,000 or more guests are dressed to a dime and many stay and dance till the bittersweet end of this seven-hour event. This year's party was held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, which is one of the biggest ballrooms in the Silicon Valley. Even then, the dance floor was so crowded that the surgeons, nurses, custodians, and administrative staff were spilling onto the carpets and dancing in the aisles between the tables!

This eclectic group of health care professionals always presents me with the unique and exciting challenge of entertaining a group of 1000 people from all different backgrounds. My four-hour dance set was a roller coaster thrill ride of pop music history. From Hip Hop to Salsa, to Big Band to Motown, to 80's, Funk, and beyond, my set didn't miss a beat and neither did the dancers on the floor. At 1am, a sweaty and disheveled crowd were left screaming for more. What a night to remember!

My team at Sound In Motion brought out one of our brand new services: LIVE PHOTOGRAPHY. Throughout the evening, one of our SIM staffers is out snapping party photos of the group, both candid and posed. The photos are live-streamed to a projection system in the room and blasted on the big screen in real time! The guests were blown away as their friends and colleagues ascended to instant celebrity status for the whole group to see on the big screen. And that's just one more way Sound In Motion made this party truly a night to remember.

Man, I love this job...
