Halloween music? Yeah – the Monster Mash, Bark At The Moon, Thriller, Don’t Fear The Reaper… the classics! That’s all fun, but what if you want to go next level? REALLY SCARY music that you could terrorize the neighborhood with?
Well, there’s LOTS of it out there. Some so gnarly that we won’t even tell you about it… well, ok: just Google “Japanese Noise” and enjoy the dulcet tones of the indescribable having gone horribly wrong LOL! But let’s just stay in-bounds, shall we? How about some classic goth? Goth is a quite popular subculture and music genre that has spawned many bands that you probably know but may not associate with that term. Going back to the ‘60s you’d find the beginnings of goth with bands like The Doors , The Velvet Underground and Eric Burdon & The Animals, and then of course the intersection with glam via David Bowie and T.Rex. Into the early ‘70s the hard rock world mixed with goth and gave you Black Sabbath (later Ozzy Osbourne’s solo work) and then of course Alice Cooper.But goth really exploded in the late ‘70s and well into the ‘80’s when it intersected with new wave and post-punk via Joy Division, The Cure, Siouxsie & the Banshees and The Damned!
