Meet SIM’s Photographer Robin Fadtke

Here’s a little bit about our own Robin Fadtke!

Where did you grow up?
I was born in Toronto but in my 2ND year moved to Germany where I learned to read and write, well, in German. The family moved back to Canada when I was five so some pivotal years in the northeast until I was 10. We packed up again and headed to Southern California where I really started experiencing life, growing my passions, enjoyed surfing and music making all in the beautiful hills of Laguna!

What “lesson from mom” do you still live by today?
Mom sometimes told us to focus on our goals and dreams and not to care about what others think, then don’t make important decisions when your are angry, so true!

How old were you when you first thought “photography would be fun”?
Oh so young, maybe 12 or so. My mom always worked in photo labs and would talk shop at home, when I was off I’d tag along with her so I was exposed to that wonderful world early on!

What are some of your favorite photos in your portfolio?
So many because each has such a great memory for me. In my SIM portfolio,

  • 1)Top row far right: That was north of Santa Barbara and after the ceremony I was looking up at that hill forecasting the possibilities up there. The bride didn’t want to go but once convinced both of them were glad we made the effort. The views and lighting were so private and intimate that they practically forgot I was there and really were able to celebrate and enjoy each other away from all the guests.
  • 2) Fourth row far right: Black wedding dress? Lord Winchester tux with tails? Bering Sea Captain to marry you in an old L.A. theater? Enough said!
  • 3) Fifth row far right..
That moment caught me a bit off guard but I was ready to snap when the groom handed Mom a written letter to his parents and goes without saying the emotion created by just the look on her face..priceless!

Is there a photographer/artist that inspires you?
There are so so many talented photographers in the world but the one that stands out and I try to aspire to is Jerry Ghionis.

What is your favorite food establishment and what is your GO TO meal there?
I love fine dinning with great service so wherever I am I always hope for one 🙂

Name 3 people you would like to meet:
Can’t think of anyone really…

If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Bali or Fiji or somewhere even more epic!

What is the one thing you hope people will remember about you?
How unique I really am 🙂
