With the holidays upon us again, it is just about that time where we will experience our annual inundation of Christmas music, with a few Chanukah ones in there for good measure too (ever hear Adam Sandler’s “Chanukah Song” before? AWESOME!)
But – stifle any guffaws here please – what about Thanksgiving music? Is it not the Forgotten Holiday?
I ask: How have composers missed the opportunity to cash in on pilgrim hat and buckle-shoed nostalgia?
OK, enough… enough!
So, how about a list of songs about GRATITUDE? For me, this is what Thanksgiving is all about. That, and family (we host every year at my house – my favorite day!)
Here you go:
Kind And Generous – Natalie Merchant
I Want To Thank You – Mighty Clouds Of Joy
Be Thankful For What You Got – William DeVaughn
Thank You (falettinme be mice elf agin) – Sly & The Family Stone
Gratitude – Earth, Wind & Fire
All You Need Is Love – The Beatles
What A Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, Tony Bennett & kd lang, or Joey Ramone
Ol’ Satchmo… will there ever be anyone like him again?
