Let's Talk Ceremony Music!
Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of a lot of wedding celebrations.
The bride, groom and family members can be very nervous. Everything needs to be perfect especially when there have been hundreds of hours of planning leading up to the wedding.
One of my favorite parts of the wedding day is the ceremony and more specifically the music. It’s fun to sit down with the couple, find out more about them, what makes them tick musically and how we can make the ceremony sound like them.
I recently went through this exercise with a couple that got married this past February. Nacime and Jordan got married the day after Valentine’s Day and we had the best time putting together the music.
Jordan is a drummer and very much into metal and some genres that surround it but also enjoys some pretty fun dance music. Nacime is very broad in her musical taste but in all our conversations we found a balance of music that sounded like the two of them. To the point where their friends would say “This sounds like Nacime and Jordan” and they sure did!
Here’s what we came up with:
Pre Ceremony - Viva La Vida - Eric Wuest performing Coldplay
Pre Ceremony - Human - Eric Wuest performing The Killers
Seating Of Family - Clair De Lune – Claude Debussy
Groom’s Processional – Superman Theme – John WIlliams
Bride’s Processional – Foo Fighters – Everlong (Acoustic)
Recessional – Vitamin String Quartet – Sweet Child O’ Mine
Now you maybe asking where the REAL ROCK comes in. Funny you should ask!
The intro song for the newlyweds was Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue and their first dance was Save Your Love from Great White. All makes sense now doesn't it? :)
So as you begin to assemble your musical ideas – Feel free to get creative. It’s your wedding and you can do whatever you want. ☺
